A Revolutionary Spinning Bee: A Newport Historical Society History Space Event
February 16, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Join a team of living historians portraying Daughters of Liberty as they recreate one of the many political protest spinning bees that took place in Newport in the years leading up to the Revolutionary War. Ladies will card wool, spin the wool, and discuss the process of weaving to create fabric. Costumed interpreters will share insights on life in colonial Newport and discuss the non-importation agreements and explain why women would take the time to make homespun fabric instead of purchasing it.
This program takes place at the Colony House on Washington Square. Admission is free, donations welcome.
