On Saturday March 19th, the Newport Historical Society will present its first pop-up History Event of 2022. Stop by the Colony House between 10am-2pm and meet members of the Tenth Massachusetts Regiment as they recreate a 1770s Muster Day.

During a Militia Muster, all men ages 16-60 would spend one day each year training for war. Families often gathered to watch their loved ones practice drills, including firing of muskets. The day typically concluded with merrymaking. Costumed living historians will bring aspects of an 18th century military muster to life, and explain for visitors how this activity was an important part of daily life as colonists prepared for the Revolutionary War.
