May 7, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Thanks, It Has Pockets
You know what spanx are, but what about stays? Did colonial women’s dresses have pockets? Did men wear pink during the American Revolution?
On Saturday May 7th, the Newport Historical Society will present a fashion-focused History Space program. Visit the Colony House between 10am-2pm and learn about the many aspects of men’s and women’s clothing in the 18th century with a team of costumed historical interpreters. From petticoats to stomachers and buckled shoes, along with stockings, gowns, cloaks and breeches, there’s much to explore about the differences between what was worn in 18th century Newport and the fast fashion of today.
Admission is free, donations are welcome.
