House History Research


Interested in learning more about your historic home? NHS staff can be hired to complete property research, and compile a report on relevant findings. The report will include:

  • The history of the evolution of the property, including construction date (if records survive)
  • Any significant details about the dwelling and occupants
  • Historical images of the property in our collection, of which there is no guarantee.

Historic House Marker


Celebrate your Historic house with a custom marker!

Similar in style to other existing house plaques, but with the imprimatur and insignia of the Newport Historical Society, these wooden markers can include the original owner’s name and additional important owners, owners’ livelihood, property name, year built, renovation dates and other details specific to the building’s history.

To participate, your property must be at least fifty years old and the Historical Society must have the original owners name(s) in its listings.

House Markers can be purchased for $350 and are sized to 12″ x 17″. The letters are applied rather than painted.
