Newport has had a well-deserved reputation for religious freedom since the 1600s. By the end of the 17th century congregations with widely varying beliefs and practices coexisted peacefully, but below the surface there were subtle prejudices reflecting different theologies, politics, and business interests. Visit sites that reveal how these prejudices affected Newporters before, during, and after the Revolutionary War.
