Join us at the Colony House for a community reading of the Declaration of Independence as part of Sharing the Spirit of America, a nationwide initiative inviting Americans across the country and around the world to read the Declaration aloud together on July 8, 2026. The 6:00 pm start time aligns with the coordinated national reading and commemorates the first public reading of the Declaration in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776.
Gather in one of Newport’s most significant civic spaces to reflect on the words that helped shape the nation and to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence in a shared moment of remembrance, participation, and community.
Visitor Information: The Colony House will remain open until 7:00 pm that evening, allowing visitors time after the reading to experience the historic building.
