Each new year ushers in a new public venue opening, especially with museums. 2026 is bringing in anticipated unveilings such as The Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, The Hip Hop Museum in New York City and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles.
Along with these headliners, other museums across the United States are opening or welcoming new additions or expansions to their locations. Here are some of them.
The Edward W. Kane & Martha J. Wallace Center for Black History, Opening June 2026
As part of their Voices Campaign, the Newport Historical Society in Rhode Island will open The Edward W. Kane & Martha J. Wallace Center for Black History at the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House, also in Newport. This location is Newport’s oldest documented home and the Voices Campaign is being used to fund its restoration.
The new center will feature exhibitions and community programs that preserve and share Black history and culture. Highlights will include digitized archives from the Voices from the NHS Archives project, access to more than 5,000 historical records online and award-winning exhibits including “A Name, A Voice, A Life.”
