Historical Illuminations: A Newport Historical Society History Space Event
July 31 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm$3 – $5
Keeping the light on wasn’t as easy as flipping a switch for residents in colonial Newport. This History Space program discusses the types of candles available in the 18th century and where in Newport they were made. Living historians will also shed light on the special occasions when they were used, including a warm welcome for George Washington.
This program takes place at the Colony House, located at the top of Washington Square. Admission costs $5 per person, $4 for NHS members and military, and $3 for children ages 5-12. Participants can also purchase a beeswax candle making kit to make their own historical candle which costs $13 per person, and $12 for NHS members and military.
A combo ticket is available that includes admission for this program and the Common Burying Ground tour which costs $18 per person, $12 for NHS members and military, and $6 for children ages 5-12.
