NHS Collections Project: Records Survey

January 23, 2009

Project Budget: $250,000
Raised to Date: $39,000

The Newport Historical Society’s mission of conservation, interpretation, and education cannot be carried out to its fullest extent until our collections – their location, condition, history, and associations – are understood in their entirety and are accessible to the public.

The NHS Records Survey is a first step in a comprehensive collections management project. It will allow us to collect and record over 155 years of documentation pertaining to our object collections, and also to plan for the permanent storage of the collection.

This survey is a first, foundational step in our effort to bring all of our collections up to modern standards of care, to document our knowledge of these items, to digitize collections, and, ultimately, to make them available online to a worldwide audience.
